CERAE #1 “Exploring 21st Century Learning”
Context:
Describing the 21st century children, how they best learn and what are the characteristics being manifested are the first ideas being shared during the discussion. Next, the 6 critical elements for 21st century learners, the 3 keys in learning skills that must acquire by the 21st century learners, the 21st century content was discussed too and the 5 kinds of a school manager and leader were being well explain during the class session. On the other hand, after all the advantages of 21st century learning that was given there were still things that they missed which were still highly important.
Experience:
Children nowadays have already the skills in manipulating electronic devices even if they are still too young. My cousin who is 3 years old knows already how to manipulate the tablet, I’ve observe that he learn using the tablet through seeing someone using it and instead of telling the child how the tablet works he learn best in his own. Hence, knowing how things works is more meaningful when we learn it in our own than knowing it through others.
Reflection:
I’ve realize that experience is really the best teacher. Experiencing rather than gaining the information are different especially when the question is about how to (make, use and etc…). Children can best learn when they experience it through that they can give their ideas in the things they had experienced. This may help in developing their information and communication skills. Lastly, I’ve learned that through awareness people will no longer ignorant in societal problems.
Action:
After knowing that 21st century learners are highly different compare before I can somehow think to the strategies that can be useful in teaching 21st century learners. Instead of giving all the information why not having an exchange of ideas with my future students will be more interesting. Also, engaging them to the activities that will help them in understanding the lesson will be useful as well. I will let them experience the lesson if it is necessary. As teacher in the future I will do my best in teaching my students to have the skills of a 21st century learner.
Evaluation:
Inclusively, the discussion was very useful in a sense that it gives us ideas what a teacher should do in teaching her students in an effective manner. That there are still many strategies to be chosen depends on the learning style of the students. Therefore, there must be an effective teacher to have knowledgeable students.
CERAE #2 “Understanding 21st Century Learners”
Context:
The technology can improve the students learning is one of the information being discussed. As well as how the teacher can do in order to have a large amount of information that can help the students. Dealing the kinds of learners in the 21st century and what are the skills being needed by the teacher in order to effectively teach her students was explained too.
Experience:
During our education 02 I’ve experienced how to manipulate a computer. Using the computer and with the effective role of internet, we have to comply the requirement given by the teacher. Hence, I’ve observed that there are really techniques that can help us as students by helping our life becomes easier and it improves our different literacies somehow.
Reflection:
Learning why our wants before becomes our needs today gives me a lot of information why technology is very important in our generation. Learners of the 21st century becomes more dependent in different websites instead of using books are one of the disadvantages of the present learners. However, it is still very useful but some people are defeating the purpose of internet. I’ve learn as well the 21st century students are digital learners and multimedia users.
Action:
The information that was given is highly important in giving as ideas what are the skills needed for the 21st century teachers. As future one, I have to become more literate in using electronic devices compare to my students for me to have more information in guiding them. In addition, I have to think instructional materials using 21st technologies in giving information to my students since it is the necessary and more efficient. Using student-centered approach will become useful since 21st century learners best learn when they are the one who are experiencing it. However, teacher will still in the classroom but only to supervise the works of the students.
Evaluation:
Overall, the discussion is very useful to as students who decided to become teachers in the future. Knowing first what kind of learners you will handle is better that concluding it. For some reason that it will guide as on how we are going to effectively teach them.
CERAE #3 “Integrating Technology and Media into instruction: the ASSURE Model”
Context:
During the discussion, it focuses on the students on what are their characteristics, what are the learning outcomes that are expected to them, what are the effective strategies that can be used by the teacher and how they utilize the technologies and lastly the assessment to measure students learning. Also, through the use of technology that is useful, instruction will become easier and not time consuming. Using technology will become practicable for the teacher in teaching 21st century learners.
Experience:
Our education 02 subject required us to submit the requirement given. Every lesson has learning objectives that we were expected to achieved. The objective can motivate the students in achieving the goal which is to learn.
Reflection:
ASSURE model is useful for the teacher in deciding what can kind of strategies, technology, media and materials to be use that are effective in teaching the students. The standards and objectives are the expected outcomes for the students to achieve. Not all technology is applicable in teaching but if the teacher has the information she can choose the appropriate one to use. There are processes in utilizing the technology, media and materials that can help the teacher in preparing the things that are needed before presenting it to the class. Therefore, preparing all the materials is necessary to have a directed discussion.
Action:
Through the use of technology learning outcomes of the students can be measure through the use of assessment. Being a teacher in the future, I will use 21st century strategies and technologies to teach my students who are 21st century learners. ASSURE model is a helpful that will help the teacher in analysing what kind and how the students learn. This may lead to the appropriateness of the technology chosen and a big possibility to achieve the learning outcomes. Using traditional objective is not bad but it is better to develop the old ones into a new.
Evaluation:
Technology is indeed a very useful topic considering the benefits that we can apply. Speciallyin giving information to the 21st century learners where technology is the main source of collecting information. The more that we are getting advance the more that we must adjust.
CERAE #4 “Achieving 21st Century Learning Environment”
Context:
Learning environment has a big role in for the students to learn. The reporters discussed how learning environment is important to the students and the importance of teachers in achieving 21st century learning environment. The different strategies are discussed and the meaningful activities that can actively engaged the students.
Experience:
Before when I was in high school our classroom is not the learning environment that we wanted. Thus, I’ve realize how learning environment is highly important for students to learn. Teachers can also help to achieve the learning environment that is helpful to students if they want to.
Reflection:
After all the reporters who present their power point presentation about 21st century learning environment I have learn something out of it. For the teacher to achieve her learning outcomes she should consider some factors that can affect the child to have difficulty in learning. For instance, the learning environment should be conducive enough for the learners to achieve the learning outcomes that are expected to them. The approaches are useful too since the 21st century learners best learn when they experience it with the presence of teacher as well. However, there are still disadvantages occur.
Action:
Learning environment in the 21st century is different before. The reason is the instructional materials are different too therefore facilities must develop to maintain the good condition of technology being use. As teacher, there are different factors to achieve 21st century learning environment. It must not only consider to the learner but also to the facilities where the technology is place. Materials for learning are important because it is the main source for the students to learn.
Evaluation:
Altogether the information is applicable to as students we are 21st century learners. It is important to know that learning environment can help us better in learning. And having this information will become applicable when we are already in the field of teaching.
CERAE #5 "Engaging Learners with Computer"
Context:
Focusing how computers are very useful to the 21st century learners are highly mentioned during the discussion. The advantages and disadvantages were cited too. Also, what are the computer resources and how to access the computer were explained by the reporters too.
Experience:
I’ve never experience manipulating computer when I was a young girl. That leads me in having difficulty when I was in high school in using a computer. In this generation young ones should know how to use computer in their young age since it is needed.
Reflection:
Teacher must have the 21st century skills to deal with the needs of 21st century learners. Using the computer is one of the basic skills to acquire in this generation since it is needed. I’ve learn that knowing basic skills is important before knowing complex one. Also, teacher can assist the students in learning specific knowledge and skills and how the computer serves as a device to reinforcement classroom instruction. Since the 21st century technology is trend there are different set-ups of classroom to guide students in manipulating computers which is something new to me that I’ve learn during the discussion.
Action:
Before teaching our students in using the computer we must be computer literate first. Even though 21st century learners can best learn on their own the role of the teacher is important still. Without the teacher there will be no one who will guide the students work. In giving instruction to our students we must make sure that we are there to guide them. Thus, the effectiveness of teacher is still important even if the learners change.
Evaluation:
The topic is very important because there are lots of information that was discussed during the report that are useful for as students in identifying what are some use of computers. Teacher must have enough knowledge in teaching her students so that she can share more ideas. The entire lesson is very useful because we just know the basic use of computer and it adds to our learning.
CERAE #6 “Connecting Learners Using Web 2.0 Tools”
Context:
The use of web 2.0 to the 12st century learners and classroom setting were emphasized during the class session. Through the use of different resources and websites learners can access to the different sites that can help them in learning. The reporters will able to give examples that help us in understanding the lesson.
Experience:
During our education 55 we conducted a research which I find very difficult because the books in the library are limited and some are too old. We had decided that we must find online resources that are published which can help us in our research. Thus, 21st century technologies are very useful.
Reflection:
In 21st century, learners can easily connect to the sites which are helpful for them to learn. Web 2.0 tools give learners different ways to access information and share the knowledge they’ve learn to others. The website that is very useful for us users in communicating to other people for educational purposes which I’ve learn. In addition, the web 2.0 tools are useful in the 21st century classroom setting. It also help the teacher in delivering the lesson in easier manner at the same time helping the students in helping them to develop their communication skills and interacting with others.
Action:
Teachers like as in the future can use web 2.0 in engaging our students to the activities which can develop their communication skills. Maybe, web 2.0 will be updated in the time that we are already teaching which is more advance and useful. Through it, I can communicate to the parents in relation to the progress of their children. However, web 2.0 tools have also limitations that we must be aware of. Therefore, we must know the technologies that are trend which can be a start in connecting our students in using web 2.0 tools.
Evaluation:
Altogether, the lesson is very important for it can teach us students in knowing what is the use of web 2.0 in education not only but also in reaching other people. By knowing the limitations of this technology will help as in determining what the alternatives that are still applicable.
CERAE #7 "Connecting Learners at a Distance"
Context:
With the use of modern technology the existence of distance education happened. In addition, the ability to instruct 21st century learners without the presence of classroom is new and challenging. Thus, it really helps students in reaching the quality they desired without causing too much effort.
Experience:
I don’t have yet experienced distance learning since it is new to me and not even that popular in the country currently. I experienced only how to use social media as a means of collecting answers from others whom capable of sharing their informative knowledge that are essential for me in learning.
Reflection:
Through this topic I’ve learn that it is very useful when we use technology in education since it is modern and are very efficient. It is best when we utilize the resources we have for us to know whatare the things we can make out of it. On the other hand, we must first become computer literate when we want to teach someone to avoid inappropriate instances. Lastly, I’ve learn the importance of the teacher in terms of guiding the students in using online websites.
Action:
Applying the information I gain is the best way on measuring how I understand well the lesson. It is difficult in letting the students experience distance education since most of the students in public schools don’t have computer or any modern technology that can cater distance learning. Hence, as teacher I must know how to utilize the resources I can use when it is commonly expected that there are lack of computers. Maybe, instead of giving them activities/assignments/projects using computer outside the school campus I can make them us computers that are available in the classroom for me to ensure that all of them have equal access to materials essential for their learning. In contrast, it must not be a reason in letting the students to experienced things just because of limited resources.
Evaluation:
The lesson I find it useful because it helps us to become a resourceful individual and not to become ignorant to the modern technology that are trending. We must become aware of the things around us specially the important one. Therefore, we must help first ourselves in widen the knowledge we have before we teach others.
CERAE #8 " Enhancing Learners with Visuals"
Context:
Type of visuals and how it can enhance learners learning was being discussed during the class session. With the use of Power point presentation of the reporters including videos and images help me to understand the lesson. Also, the types of visuals in the classroom as well as what are its advantages and limitations were give.
Experience:
Before when I as in grade 5 our MSEP teacher gave us project about instruments. We need to choose an instrument by using materials that are used and inexpensive. I chose tambourine as an instrument since the materials I needed were available in or house already.
Reflection:
To be creative is needed especially when resources are limited. Being resourceful is useful particularly when the output we made is necessary for learning. I’ve learn the importance of using indigenous materials and what are the visuals that are needed in teaching the students. Knowing the types of visuals and what its purposes is helpful in using it in every lesson suited for it. Since both types of visuals have it limitations using of indigenous materials is a good option.
Action:
In the future, I can help my students through selecting the visuals appropriate in every lesson. I can also develop their creativeness through teaching them how to utilize the used materials that can create something useful. The effectiveness of visuals is up to the teacher on how we are going to introduce to it to our students. Hence, I must know the limitations of the visuals I will use for me to ensure that it can’t affect the learning of my students. Lastly, to let my students to experience electronic technology that can be useful in enhancing their learning.
Evaluation:
In general, I find the lesson very useful considering the information I’ve learned. Concluded, that it implies important in facts that can surely help us in knowing the real purpose of every visuals. Mostly, some of the teachers specially I public schools are defeating the purpose of visuals by not using it bt means of learning but rather designing only their classroom.
CERAE #9 “ENHANCING LEARNING USING AUDIO”
Context:
With the start of a question what is the difference between hearing and listening? Was the introduction to begin with the lesson. It is also a good start in discussing on how audio enhance learning. Furthermore, the barriers that can effect on how the receiver received the message from the sender, the importance of listening skills as well, the timeline of audio formats also the commonly used in the classroom, lastly, the different types of audio file format the advantages and the limitations of audio were the information given.
Experience:
Since audio is applicable in all subjects I’ve experienced it on how my teacher used it as means of delivering instruction. When I was in elementary, it was our MAPEH teacher who used audio in teaching us on how to used guitar, of course with his presence but since everyone was excited it was very noisy that time, what our teacher did he instead used his audio cassette containing his voice instructing how to play guitar then everyone lessen. But we found it difficult in rewinding it.
Reflection:
Using audio as means of giving instruction/information is useful when we tend to catch the attention of our audience/students. One of its scenarios is when barangay officials give instruction to the people near coastal areas to evacuate because there is a typhoon. Also, audio can be useful in delivering important news with the help of radio stations. On the other hand, audio can be also applicable in the field of education as well, for instance, it would be easier to call the attention of all students when we announce it via audio of course with the help of speakers located near the classroom instead of assigning someone to go on every classroom to announce. Before, I honestly underestimated the use of audio in the classroom for such reason that it can’t be seen by the us students considering the fact that common of the students are visual learners. But then, I realized how it gives practice to us students in really listening to our teachers.
Action:
Audio can be useful in different areas; in can be useful in entertainment and etc. Hence, tomorrow’s teachers like us must know how useful audio is as a means of giving instruction/information to our students. For instance, instead of providing video it can be also useful to use alternatives just like the audio for it gives motivation to the students to listen often since they can’t see the message given merely the sound alone. The other one is, podcasting, where the teacher can download their lesson via website as an audio format for their students who can’t attend the class can still learn without the physical presence of the teacher. In contrast, we must know the limitations of the audio in using it in the classroom to avoid interruptions.
Evaluation:
Inclusively, the discussion subject is very useful for us students who wants to become teachers someday. However, we must just don’t learn how audio is being used in the classroom but rather how to put into action/apply the information we have learned. I conclude that, to become an effective teacher we must first become an equipped students by not just learning but also having mastery in what we do.
CERAE #10 “ENHANCING LEARNING USING VIDEO”
Context:
With the used on power point presentation the subject matter was being well discussed also through giving examples related to the lesson that is mostly related to everyone. Being define, video literacy means a person knows how to view and make video. Also, some parts are discussed as well, for instance, the 5 core concepts, parts of video learning, using video in the classroom, the types of educational video that addresses the 4 learning domains lastly the advantages and limitations.
Experience:
During our graduation practice, one of the songs that was chosen had sign language. Before, it was all new to us since the school don’t offer special education by that time. Through the use of video, we were able to repeat the video all we need until we successfully memorized it.
Reflection:
Videos are not new to me but the information that was given during the discussion was sort of since I merely know how to download video and where I can find videos. Obviously, video is very important in giving instruction as a student because I find it attractive where I can understand the lesson better when the video contents is clear that wants me to gain. I’ve learned also that in making video there must be a message that you want your viewers to get whereas video without any information will become meaningless. The purpose of making video is we want to give awareness, information, message and etc. Even if we want people to be aware in a certain issue in society still we can make videos that will be informative at the same time attractive.
Action:
Mostly of students find the lesson with the support of video related to it is helpful in understanding the lesson. Hence, teacher like me someday must know all the necessary information in delivering the lesson to enhance the learning of my students by the use of video. It would be useful if I will use video as means of starting my lesson or maybe to support the information already given. There are many types of educational video that can choose in every lesson that will surely address the four domains of learning (cognitive, affective, psychomotor and interpersonal). Still I must know the limitations of the use in using it in the classroom for me to be prepared if any instances will occur.
Evaluation:
At the end of the lesson, I find it applicable through the information that was given that can be useful in the classroom. By the use of different types of various educational videos that can be suitable for every lesson students can learn better in some ways. I had learned that learning can be fun even if the topic itself is somehow very informative what do we need to do is to become creative enough to make videos that can bring to us in other places.
CERAE#11 “STANDARDS FOR EVALUATING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS FOR SOCIAL CONTENT”
Context:
Instructional materials are very important tools which contains instructions to learners. During the discussion the errors are being emphasized that are mostly occurring in most instructional materials being used. Lastly, how the standards of DEPED can really help in making the most effective and appropriate instructional materials was well discussed.
Experience:
As one of those students studying in public school before I had experienced shortage of book supplies and using very old books that were not appropriate in using purposes. In addition, aside from old books, some of it contains words that were spelled incorrectly and pictures that are not applicable to the lesson and not commonly seen here in country.
Reflection:
In learning the use of instructional materials are very useful in elaborating and discussing the lesson further. Through it, the students now then have visual interpretation to the lesson which can be helpful for them to learn. Content for learning must follow the standards to avoid biases and misinterpretation that may effect on how the students react or reason. Most of the biases found in the book can lead to us in stereotyping other culture, living, religion and etc. This must not teach in children how others are different instead we must explain the difference of each without any biases.
Action:
It would be better I these errors will be lessen and the teacher can properly explain the lesson with the proper example in relation to the things commonly seen in the Philippines instead of just taking too much information in the book which some are not applicable. Sooner, as a teacher, I will make sure that I know the lesson very well that I can give various examples that are here in the country even if the book doesn’t contain applicable examples. Also, I will emphasize the equal role of both sexes if necessary in the lesson through it they can develop gender equity which respecting ones differences. On the other hand, by the use of big books the lesson will become more interactive since it catches the attention of students that can lead to listening and exchange of ideas. In addition, children will learn better if the lesson will be in the form of stories which are situational and real because they can put themselves in the story.
Evaluation:
In general I find the lesson very applicable not just by knowing the standards and the errors of some content which can found in the book but on how the teacher can properly explain the lesson even if the absence of appropriate examples. Also, through the various examples that were given I can now more understand the importance of giving proper instructional materials to the students which can be helpful in supporting the lesson. Lastly, biases must be eliminated in the social content of instructional materials and if even there are some teachers must now know how to properly deliver it to the class.
