CERAE no. 1 Exploring the 21st Century Learning

 

Context

                This topic focuses on the 21st Century learning on what are the new strategies or approaches and what are the new and advance tools that are integrated in the learning process. This topic also compares and contrasts the type of learning before from the 21st Century learning today. It discussed also the framework for the 21st Century learning which is the “preparation for students to meaningfully and purposefully use of technology”.

 

Experience

                In my experience I can observe nowadays that 21st Century learning is pretty obvious ion schools on how the teachers deliver the lesson to the learners. Technology is being integrated through the use of power point in presenting the lessons and even books are form of technology. In my high school years technology was being integrated but I can see the big difference in the learning process nowadays because it is more advance.

     

Reflection

                I realized that 21st Century Learning is very meaningful and useful for learners to use because we all know that the learners nowadays are exposed in technology. I learned that this kind of learning is appropriate for the learners today because it really meet the needs of the learners and will really suit their capabilities and skills.

 

Action

                As a future educator I should study, explore and learn deeply the process of 21st Century learning so that I will be guided and be prepared in the teaching-learning process towards my learners.  

 

Evaluation         

                This topic gave me more knowledge about how 21st Century Learning works in the teaching-learning process. This helped me to be aware on the changes in the educational system so that I can adapt and adjust myself.

 

 

 

 

CERAE no. 2 Understanding 21st Century Learners

 

Context

                This topic “Understanding 21st Century Learners” obviously focuses on what kind of learners we have now in the 21st Century Learning. It also focuses on what are the important skills that the learners should acquire.

 

Experience

                In my experience, I had encountered learners that were much updated especially in using computers or any gadgets. I was amazed because I think they know more than me about those stuffs. They were talkative that I can hardly understand some of their topics because it’s all about games online and social networking sites. I can say that they were intelligent because they form new ideas and learn new ideas through the use of technology.

 

Reflection

                I realized that there’s really a big change happened to the learners nowadays compared to the children before because the process of learning in the past was in traditional way. I learned that 21st Century learners are multi-taskers, hyper-communicators, risk-takers, futurist and optimistic. They are also creative and dreamers.

 

Action

                As a future educator I should really study my learners most especially we are in the 21st Century Learning. I should make the learning meaningful and interactive to provide the needs and interests of the learners.

 

Evaluation

                This topic gives me important information about what kind of learners is the 21st Century learners. This will help me a lot in the future to understand the different skills and abilities of the learners.  

 

 

 

 

CERAE no. 3 Integrating Technology and Media into Instruction:

The ASSURE Model

 

Context

                “Integrating Technology and Media into Instruction: The ASSURE Model”, this chapter focuses on how technology tools and other interactive media are being integrated in the ASSURE Model. The ASSURE Model is a good model or style to have an effective and proper organization in facilitating the learning to the learners most especially technology and media are being integrated.

 

Experience

                ASSURE Model can be a format in making a lesson plan. I can recall in my Assessment subject that we were taught to make a good instructional objective. I can remember the ABCD format in constructing a good objective and it’s really effective.  The ABCD are important ingredients to create a good objective in order to have a clear goal on what the learners are going to achieve. In my experience in high school and up to know I already encountered technologies and other interactive media that are being integrated into instruction.

 

Reflection

                I learned that it’s very important to be prepared always and have pre-planned activities using the ASSURE Model to ensure an effective and meaningful learning of the children. I realized how important objectives are and different instructional materials especially those materials that are technology-based because we all know that we have 21st Century learners nowadays.

 

Action

                As a future educator, my role is to ensure that my learners really learned well and have enough and appropriate equipments to assist their learning. I should monitor and facilitate the learning of my learners and most especially I should analyze and study each of my learners. This action can be a great help in order to recognize their differences and needs because as a teacher I’m responsible to cater their needs and guide them.

 

Evaluation

                This chapter was a great a help for the teachers in order to have an organized plan in integrating technology and media into instruction to the learners. This topic gained me more knowledge on how to set up the activities and other important stuffs that are involved in the learning process.

 

 

 

CERAE no. 4 Achieving 21st Century Learning Environments

 

Context

                The title of this chapter is “Achieving 21st Learning Environments” and this chapter focuses on the different learning strategies and variety of technology tool. This chapter also aims to guide or help teachers to have a conducive and effective learning environment.

 

Experience

                When I was in my high school years, we had a computer subject. We had a computer lab but every Wednesday was our schedule to use the lab. As what I’ve observed in my computer subject was that the strategy that our teacher used was more on the teacher-centered approach and we really don’t do hands-on activities.

 

Reflection

                I realized that the generation nowadays is far different in my generation when I was in my high school. It’s very effective if the strategy that the teacher will be using is more on student-centered approach. I learned that the teacher should facilitate the learning and will choose the best and effective strategies in order to attain the needs of the diverse learners. I realized also that the learning environment for the 21st Century learners should provide variety of hands-on activities with interactive and technology integration.

 

Action

                As a future educator, I should choose and use best strategies for my learners. I should consider their age, learning styles and even their interests. I should not always use teacher-centered strategies so that I can give my learners wide range of opportunities to enhance their skills and abilities to work on their own.

 

Evaluation

                This chapter helped me a lot to understand deeply on how to achieve 21st Century learning environments. This was a great for teachers to know the different teaching strategies both in teacher-centered and student-centered approaches. 

 

 

CERAE no. 5 Engaging Learners with Computer

 

Context

                This chapter focuses on engaging learners with computer and the different strategies and approaches in using computers in the classroom both teacher-centered and student-centered.

 

Experience

                In my experience, teachers nowadays really engage learners with computers because we’re in the 21st century education. Electronic technologies are rapidly growing. I observed that most of the strategies and approaches are student-centered because most of the activities that the teachers are implementing really focus on how to develop particular skills of the learners and really integrate computers.

 

Reflection

                I learned many things especially the advantages of using different strategies and approaches in engaging learners with computers. I realized how important computers are in the learning process of the learners because engaging computers with them can widen their opportunities especially unique opportunities to explore and be fully 21st Century Learners.

 

Action

                As a future educator, I should really engage my learners with computers because it will really help them in the learning process most especially that nowadays most of the activities or projects are computer-based. I should also adapt the changes now in the 21st century education so that I can deal with my 21st century learners.

 

Evaluation

                This chapter gives me more knowledge or adds my knowledge about effective ways or strategies in engaging learners with computers that I can apply in my future endeavor.

 

 

CERAE no. 6 Connecting Learners Using Web 2.0 Tools

 

Context

                This chapter focuses on connecting learners through the use of web 2.0 tools. It also discussed about cyberlearning, web 2.0 tools and cyberlearning literacy. It focuses also on the advantages and limitations in using Web 2.0 tools in the classroom.

 

Experience

                In my experience I high school and now in the present I already encounter and exposed to web 2.0 tools such as exploring different websites in the internet and other social networking sites. Some of these things or tools were used by our teachers to connect or communicate with the learners.

 

Reflection

                I learned that web 2.0 tools are very important tools that will help the teachers to effectively deliver his or her lessons to the 21st century learners. I realized that these web 2.0 tools will greatly help the learners to understand well the concept, widen the opportunities to explore more things and enhance their skills in using these tools in the computer.

 

Action

                As a future educator, I should accept or adapt these changes in the 21st century learning with the use of web 2.0 tools. I should always know and study the abilities of my learners so that I can relate to them and cater their needs.

 

Evaluation

                My overall view in this chapter is very interesting because it opens new information or strategy for teachers on what are the effective ways or creative ways to help or assist the learners in the learning process.

 

 

 

CERAE no.7 Connecting Learners at a Distance

 

Context

                This chapter focuses on connecting learners at a distance, on how or what are the ways to connect or communicate with the teachers or learners even though they are far apart or at a distance with each other. It discussed also the different types of instruction without the direct presence in the classroom or there’s no live lesson.

 

Experience

                I already encountered or experienced distance learning nowadays because most of our teachers use ELearn or any websites to connect with us regarding in our quizzes, projects or any important instructions without their direct presence.

 

Reflection

                I realized that distance learning is very helpful to the part of the teachers.  They we can’t avoid some emergencies at home or any circumstances that will come, so the teachers can still update and give instruction to the students even if he or she failed to meet the class in the classroom. I learned that it’s also an advantage to the learners because they can comfortably study some lessons or take any exams wherever they want. There are many ways in implementing distance learning and nowadays you can already enroll on some course with use of it.

 

Action

                As a future educator, distance learning and other online resources will help me to deliver my lessons in class. I should engage my learners with distance learning or this kind of strategy or one way on giving instruction so that they will enhance their skills such as computer skills, creativity, problem -solving skills and also they can explore with their own.

 

Evaluation

                This chapter really helped me a lot on how to deal my learners most especially we are now in the 21st century learning and distance learning is one way to connect with them. It gives me more information about the importance and advantages of distance learning that will surely gain effectiveness on the learning process. 

 

 

CERAE no.8 Visuals in the Classroom

 

Context

                This chapter tackles about “Visuals in the Classroom” and it focuses on the two types of visuals which are the non-projected and projected visuals. It also discusses the advantages, limitations and integrations of the different types of each visual.

 

Experience

                In my experience, I already encountered non-projected and also projected visuals in my elementary years, high school years, and also now in my college years. In the non-projected visuals, I do remember some of these things in my elementary years like blackboard, charts, realia, storybooks and still pictures. While the projected visuals, I do encountered some of it in my high school years up to now like the presentation software, digital projector, and digital images.

 

Reflection

                I realized that the more technology is growing the more the opportunities children can learn in many different high-tech ways. I learned that with the help of technology there are many things that were invented that will really support the education or learning of the learners. I also realized that children nowadays really need these kind of visuals especially the projected visuals because it’s electronic-based and gives quality in the learning process.

 

Action

                As a future educator, I should be knowledgeable or expert enough to choose the appropriate and best visuals to use either non-projected or projected visuals to my learners. I should be smart enough to think for an alternative if a particular visual don’t exist in the learning environment.

 

Evaluation

                This chapter gives me more knowledge and information about the two types of visuals in the classroom that will surely help me to deliver my lessons to the learners.

 

 

CERAE no.9 Enhancing Instruction Using Audio

 

Context

                This chapter focuses about the importance and effectiveness of audio in the classroom instruction. It focuses also on what’s the difference between hearing and listening. The different types of audio formats and audio file formats.

 

Experience

                In my experience in my elementary years, our teacher used audio to deliver her lesson such as reading a story through the use of tape that was being played in a cassette. Our teacher also presented nursery rhymes through playing it on a cassette and in my high school years, audio was used when we had a project in making a story and record our voices and save it in a compact disk.

 

Reflection

                I realized that using audio really enhance the classroom instruction of the teacher. I learned that through the use of audio the learning process will be more meaningful and effective for the learners. Audio has many uses in the classroom instruction and it can be integrated in any subject matter. I learned that using audio can make the discussion in the classroom more interactive.

 

Action

                As a future educator especially in preschool, it’s very helpful to integrate audio in my classroom instruction so that I can simply play some nursery rhymes in a cassette. I should make use of audio because it has great part in the technology and nowadays we have 21st century learners that they are exposed to any form of electronic technologies.

 

Evaluation

                This chapter gives me more important information on enhancing instruction using audio. It’s a big help for me to know the different uses of audio and it’s different formats.

 

 

 

CERAE no.10 Enhancing Instruction Using Video

 

Context

                This chapter focuses in using video to enhance instruction or to support the learning of the learners. It discussed about video literacy that under it were viewing and producing video. It focuses also on the use of video in the classroom and its four learning domains: Cognitive, Affective, Psychomotor and Interpersonal Domains. It also talks about the different video formats, types of educational videos, its special attributes, advantages and also limitations.

 

Experience

                In my experience in college, I already encountered integrating and using a video class especially in the biology class. Our teacher really prepared videos in order to understand more the lesson and it’s very helpful for my part because I’m having a hard time studying in any science subjects.

 

Reflection

                I realized that using video can really enhance instruction because it really support and cater the needs of the learners because they are diverse in a way that some of them are visual learners and some are audio learners. I learned the four learning domains that it should not only focus in cognitive domain but also to the affective, psychomotor and interpersonal domains of the learners’ development when using video. It should really cater the whole being of the child in order to have a successful, effective and meaningful learning experience.

 

Action

                As a future educator, I should really welcome the idea of using video in delivering my lesson because it will aid the learning process. I should really use video to enhance instruction and I should make sure that the videos that I’ll be showing will suit to the lesson and age appropriate to the learners.

  

Evaluation

                This chapter really helped me a lot in understanding the different and effective uses of video in teaching. The topic gave me more knowledge and brightens my mind on the advantages that will benefit both teachers and learners. 

 

 

CERAE no. 11 Standards for Evaluating Instructional Materials for Social Content

 

Context

                This lesson focuses about the standards or guidelines in evaluating instructional materials for social content. It tackles about age-appropriateness of the particular IM and important things that need to take into account like gender roles, ratio of pictures and texts especially in the big book, and appropriate people in the IM.

 

Experience

                In my experience in elementary, I encountered a textbook that there were many errors especially in errors in the text and some of the pictures were not appropriate because of its size too little.

 

Reflection

                I learned many things that are very useful because the new information made me realized that it is very important to evaluate instructional materials before presenting it to the learners. I learned about the standards that will evaluate closely the IM’s to have an effective teaching and learning process.

 

Action

                As a future educator, I should be guided by the standards for evaluating instructional materials to avoid error in making IM’s and to make it the best for the learners. I should make instructional materials that are appropriate to the age and ability of the learners.

 

Evaluation

                This topic really helped me a lot in my future endeavor so that I can make IM’s that will suit to the learners. This will support and guide me in studying more about developmentally appropriate instructional materials.
