Cerae Entry #1: Exploring 21st century learning

Context:

The learners today are really different from the old generation. Elder generation learners reflects while the 21st century learners or the new generation. There are 5 critical elements for the 21st century learners, 3 key learning skills which is (1) Information and communication skills, (2) thinking and problem skills and (3) Interpersonal and self-directional skills. The 21st century content which learners are Globaly aware, Financial, economic and business literary which is to transact to other people and civic literacy which is the awareness of ones community, laws and responsibilities. There are also 5 miinds of a school manager and leader.

Experience:

In our history 11 subject we often do our quiz and exams to online software like edmodo, it's amazing that I can take my quizzes and exams to my very convenient time and at the same time after we answer tha particular quiz or exam it will certainly post our results and also it will show us that is the right and the wrong answer, and it really help us to study well because its just online and we can open it anywhere we want aslong as we have internet, android or iOs phones.

Reflection:

21st century learners nowadays are lack of pyschomotor skills and communication skills. They are just only focused on the computers they are just only exposed to computers as what said traditional learners can reflect while the 21st century learners can act.

Action:

As a future teacher, I would use microsoft programs to my students, like powerpoint I would use it as my discussion, microsoft word as an hands-on activity like how to make a creative short story. I also expose them to softwares and I would give them online activities and also I will give them an assignment and I will just post it online, so they can answer it on their very convenient time.

Evaluation:

This topic really helps me as a future teaacher on how to effectively handle and expose the 21st century learners. It enables me to know and to explore using technologies prior to teaching and also achieve the learning goals and by this knowledge about exploring 21st century learning, I would let use my students computer in everyday discussion so that they effectively learn and at the same time they will enjoy.

Cerae Entry #2: Understanding 21st century learner

Context:

21st century learners are the learners that are exposed to technologies and also a student-centered strategy. There are 6 critical elements for 21st century learners, 3 key learning skills, and 21st century content that are mentioned within the scope of the topic. During the discussion, there was a thorough opinion that was asked from the students regarding the 21st century setting.

Experience:

21st century learners are exposed in to technologies like computers and powerpoint projectors and also a student centered strategy where are students aims to develop learner autonomy and independence by putting responsibility for the learning path in the hands of students, the teacher always let us do the reporting, they let us facilitate the classroom and as what I observed we can really learn more from each other rather than the teacher centered strategy, we also use online websites to use as an assessment like edmodo and elearn unlike the traditional way we just use paper and pencil test and as an instruction we already use powerpoint presentations and projectors.

Reflection:

As a 21st century learner I find it more easy to learn because the teacher is already guiding us what we really need to do and also we are exposed to technologies and I find it easy to study, explore articles, and take exams in my very convenient time. Not like the traditional way that it's always teacher centered they just always discussing, writing into black boards while as a student we just always take note and write down everything in the notebook and we always have paper and pencil test.

Action:

As a future teacher I will not let my students experience the old way of teaching or as what we called the traditional way of learning, I will ensure that my students can really learn well in their own by my guidance.

Evaluation:

Understanding 21st century learners is really a good tool for us to know as a future teacher of 21st century learners so that we can have a guide to have an effective learning environment, strategy and what tool to be used for them, so that they can effectively learn.

Cerae Entry #3: Integrating technology and Media into instruction: the ASSURE Model

Context:

The ASSURE Model presents a different type of approach that can be of used and that is very helpful for the students. This is a model that can be use to design and develop the most appropriate learning environment for the learners. This incorporates Robert Gagne's events of instruction to assure effective use of media in instruction with A — Analyze; learners; S — State standards & objectives; S — Select strategies, technology, media & materials; U — Utilize technology, media & materials; R — Require learner participation; and E — Evaluate & revise.

Experience:

While I was making my lesson plan for my major subject, we always do the detailed lesson which it cost 15-20pages long and after a several times of making my detailed lesson plan. Just the normal detailed lesson plan theres a content, the subject/topic of your lesson, materials, what teacher should do or the flow of the demo, and also the evaluation and it is so very tiring and complicated for me to make detailed lesson plan because I really have to think well on what to do, why I should do this kind of activiy, why I can't do this activity to them, how can I deliver my lesson without any bad experience to my students.

Reflection:

Being presented with this ASSURE model is a great opportunity for me, because I was really guided on what I need to do to my detailed lesson plans, I knew that we should know the sociocultural and socio-economic factors of our students, there skills, attitudes, there physicological factors, there Multiple Intellegence. By knowing this things first to them we can really find it more easy to make my lesson plan.

Action:

As a future teacher I should do the ASSURE model as my guide to do my lesson plans. So that before and after teaching to my students I can assure that it is very effective and I should be able to what appropriate tools and assessment that I will use to them and I should be able to guide their needs as a learner.

Evaluation:

ASSURE model is a tool for us to guide us as a future teacher to make a good and very effective lesson plan and by the guide of the ASSURE MODEL I will be able to know what should be the flow of my lessons and the things that I should do and put on my lesson plans and also by the ASSURE MODEL, learners are also guided on their prior knowledge.

Cerae Entry #4: Achieving 21st century learning environments

Context:

Learning environments in the 21st century doesn't only take into account the structure of the classroom and the students. it also encompasses the learning strategies that are teacher-centered or student centered with the integration of technology, media, and metrials to support learning. these strategies includes Presentation, Demonstration, Drill and Practice and tutorials while student-centered includes Discussion, Cooperative Learning, Games, Simulation, Discovery, and Problem Solving.

Experience:

I have this computer subject when I was still in the Business Management course, we are exposed to computers and to the microsoft softwares like microsoft words and powerpoints and we also use online software like elearn for our activity, assignments, quizzes and exams. our teacher is really hands on our activity, she really observes and guide us on what we need to do or just post a very detailed and specific instruction or steps so that we can achieve the particular goal of the topic.

Reflection:

Through the said information, it is very necessary that by guiding 21st century learners they can effectively learn and also to the teacher they can achieve the said goal of that particular topic.

Action:

As a future teacher of 21st century learner if I would let them use computers for our said activity on that particular topic or their hands-on activity. I would ensure that I will be their to guide them or even post a specific and detailed instruction so that they can understand well and they will be able to know what they should be doing.

Evaluation:

This topic really gave me a knowledge on what I have to set a learning environment for the 21st century learners, I was able to know what are the advantages and limitations of the students that are exposed to the computers only. It is a great tool for me as a future teacher what is both teacher centered strategy and student-centered strategy.

Cerae Entry #5: Engaging Learners with Computers

Context:

Computers have become one of the key instructional technologies in education, especially in light of what we know about the 21st century learner. To make choices on computer use, students need to be familiar with the various computer application like word processing, graphics, and presentation software; games and simulation; tutorials; and teacher resources.

Experience:

When I’m still high school our algebra class is very enjoy and interactive subject than the normal algebra class that algebra class that always do discussion and solving. In our algebra class in my 4th year subject, we have this online gaming that relates to our subject and the sample game is a boxing, before you can punch to the enemy you should solve 1st the given equation and sometimes out teacher let us watch a tv series like CSI that uses math to solve the case.

Reflection:

Computers can really help the learners to be more interested in the subject, because through the teacher’s creativity on how to make his subject more interesting and through the computers we can enhances their Multiple Intelligence, and be more interactive because learners nowadays really want a visual image to see, an audio to they want to hear and replay it if they want, a video that they can see individually in their computers.

Action:

In the future I will engage my learner to computers because through computers we can get their interest and the subject for them becomes more interesting and interactive.

Evaluation:

This topic really helps us to know more how to use computers effectively. Through this, we already know what is the strategies and approaches that we can use to the 21st century learners environment and also their advantages and limitations of computers to the students.

Schools is the 21st century are changing. No longer are they limited to the existing structure or resources of the building. It is possible to reach beyond the school and the scheduled formal setting to create learning situations with global reach to engage the 21st century learners.

Experience:

When I'm still on highschool and also now in college. Web 2.0 tools is very useful to me because I use them in mybpast subjects like my BA 1, Filipino 33, Filipino 10, Filipino 26, English 27 and Education 55. I use different kind of search engines as my reference list, I also used videos just to watch any other testimony or interviews that also proofs or supports my study.

Reflection:

Web 2.0 tools os very useful nowadays because using it, students can learn more or broader their knowledge about exploring and using Web 2.0 tools and also exploring different educational search engine tools that can help them to their study and to our lesson.

Action:

As a future teacher I will introduce to my students Web 2.0 tools to help them understand more about my subject and also they can be more interested. I'll use Web 2.0 tools like videos, audios and any other search engines to my lesson to have an effective learning environment on my classroom.

The term telecommunications embraces a variety of technology and media configurations including audio, video, and computer based resources. The emphasis on student learning, whether in a teacher-led or student centered environment.

Experience:

I've experience distance learning in my past history 11 subject. Our teacher is always busy because he is a teacher and also he is schooling for his prof. Education and every saturday we don't have a class, so every saturday he always leave a quiz or seatwork to edmodo and everytime we take it, it automatically check and show the correct and wrong answer, it serves as a reviewer for us. Sometimes he leaves a pdf file for us to read it and on the next meeting he will oral us.

Reflection:

Distance Learning is also a very useful to the students and also to the teacher. Without the presence of the teacher, students can also learn and teacher can also monitor the students. Through the distance learning the teacher can't leave his responsibility to the students eventhough he/she is not present on the room.

Action:

As a future teacher, if I'm not around in the classroom because of important stuff's. I will not leave my students without learning or doing something in the room. I will use distance learning to them, I'll leave a seatwork or activity to them online.

Evaluation:

Distance Learning topic is really a good tool for us future teachers and also to the teachers to know about it. So that everytime we got busy because of important seminars or errands that we really need to absent in our class. Distance Learning introduce it to us on how to handle this kind of situation. Distance Learning introduce that through online search engines we can leave our responbility to it.

Cerae Entry #8: Visuals in the classroom

Context:

There are 2 types of visuals in the classroom it can be non-projected visuals which is it does not require equipment to view and the example of it is the bulletin board, black board, realia, 3D images, model, diorama, flashcards, story book, still pictures, drawings and charts. The 3nd type of visual is the projected visuals which is the media formats in which still images are enlarged and displayed on screen and example of projected visuals are presentation software and digital images.

Experience:

I experience using different kind of visuals in the classroom, when I was still on highschool I really use a non-projected visuals such like black boards and using of manila paper or cartolina. Now that I'm on college I already use projected visuals such like powerpoint presentation to my report, I use different kinds of visuals depending on the environment to the classroom or to my topic.

Reflection:

Visuals in the classroom is really important for both the teachers and the students, without the visuals the discussion of the teacher between his/her students is really boring, through the help of the visuals students can learn effectively, understand effectively and visualize it.

Action:

As a future educator, I'll use different kinds of visuals in my classroom depending on my topic. If my topic is about short stories then I'll use bog book or drawings, if I'll do oral then I'll use flash cards. To projected visuals I'll use presentation software to show them videos or listen to a particular audio.

Evaluation:

Visuals in the classroom topic is really a good topic for us to know and understand it well because through this topic, I already know what is the difference of projected and non-projected visuals and how to use them properly and their purposes.

Reflection:

Using audio in a classroom setting is a very effective material for me because by just letting us listen to an audio, we really really need it to listen because we neec to compare it, we just don't need to hear it and let just pass through our ears but by listening to it and let it through process to the brain.

Action:

As a future educator, I'll use audio as an instructional material in my classroom depending on my topic. If my topic is about listening to an old music or old converstaion about my topic like example noli me tangere , then I'll use audio to let them really listen to the conversation or music that I let them hear, if I'll do evaluation I will let them writr what they really understand from the audio that they listen, so they will really listen to it not by just hearing.

Evaluation:

This topic gives us the advantages and disadvantages about using audio in the classroom, but by audio we can let the students really participate in the class because they will really listen to the audio so that they will understand not like video and audio because without audio they can sometimes understand the message of the topic.

Action:

As a future educator, I'll use video as an instructional material in my classroom depending on my topic. If my topic is about the short stories then i'll introduce to them a video, by it the students will understand it more rather than letting it read to them.

Evaluation:

This topic gives us the knowledge on how to really use video as an instrutional material, a video should have a message not just let the students watch it without a message.

This topic focuses about the standards or guidelines in evaluating instructional materials for social content. It tackles about age-appropriateness of the particular IM and important things that need to take into account like gender roles, ratio of pictures and texts especially in the big book, and appropriate people in the IM.

Experience:

In my elementary  years, our teacher use a big book and it has so many errors because there are so many skills that she is focusing, other IM's that is gender bias, and mostly of the book was so many picture that in fact that not all students have a happy family in their home, not all family has their grandma and grandma living in their house.

Reflection:

By doing such Instructional Material and introduce it to my students, we should evaluate it first to have an effective teaching and learning process.

Action:

As a future teacher before i show and use my IM's to my students I should evaluate it first to have an effective teaching and learning process; to the books that the school required us to use and theres an error, I will explain to further to my students.

Evaluation:

This topic really helped me a lot as a future teacher because it taught me to be more creative and careful by introducing my IM's to my students.
