I.N. Entry #1: Exploring 21st century learning

Context:

Now that we are entering the new age of the 21st century we are also presented with the new trend and this include the 21st century learning. This is a framework that presents a holistic view of 21st century teaching and learning that combines a  focus on 21st century student outcomes with innovative support systems. This would be able to to help students master the multi-dimensional abilities( e.g. information, media, and technology skills) required of them in the 21st century and beyond.

Experience:

Kids now a days are presented with variety ways on how to learn. Just like my neice who learned her first animal because of a video showed to her. She also learned to dance because of the viedos that she saw of people who are dancing. 21st century learning is really a lot different from the traditional learning.

Reflection:

Presented now with the new approach of learning, I have learned that it not a problem in changing the old habit that we have encountered in the past most especially in the field of education/learning. I have discovered that this 21st century learning isn't a way to give shock and to those people who are used in the traditional learning instead I have learned that to fully embraced and learned that this is an opportunity for me as a future educator. Exploring the 21st century learning gives me the knowledge and later on will be put into action for myself and my future students.

Action:

Now that I know the 21st century learning I would be able to use the discoveries and insights of mine in the future. Traditional learning is more on lectures rather than demonstration that is present in the 21st century learning. It is more concered in letting the students experience learning. I can embody the teachings I have gained in this lesson by not just focusing on lecture method during my reports and presentation. Instead haveing some demonstration or other methods/teaching strategies that incorporate experiential learning.

Evaluation:

21st century learning is a way that lets the 21st century learners learns best at their current level. It brings new ways of learning based on their skills and capabilities. It opens a new paradigm of learning that suits the learners of today generation.

I.N. Entry #2: Understanding 21st century learner

Context:

The children wants different today. They react while the older generation reflect. They are random while we are sequential. They are holistic while we are linear. There are a number of differences of the traditional learner and the 21st century learner. They have a collaborative midset that lets them learn more with peers and group. Lastly the 21st century learner are presented with the vast choices of technology and media.

Experience:

A nephew of mine is someone who is really fond of technology and electronics. He always bring his tablet wherever he goes. Playing tablets may seem to be the effect of not being able to find something that interest him like playing.

Reflection

The young ones are the seeds of the future. They are the one who would make the future in to a brighter one or the other way around. The learnings that they have got are crucial that’s why an effective learning must be given to them. Knowing now the 21st century learners, I have learned that they need the appropriate way of teaching. In this way learners would be able to at their best.

Action:

Being aware of these things I may say that a proper action must be taken into account. One particular action I can do is to introduce new things to my nephew who is immersed in the use of the tablet. These new things may include educational games that can be played instead of those other games that do not incorporate learning. Letting them enjoy learning even though they are still using the ones that they are used to is a good option.

Evaluation:

The young are the hope of the future. They are to carry on what they have learned in the past and that learning will be passed to the next generation. That is why it is important that they learn things for them and for others adapting the 21st century learning.

I.N. Entry #3: Integrating technology and Media into                           Instruction: the ASSURE Model

Context:

The ASSURE Model presents a different type of approach that can be of used and that is very helpful. This is a model that can be use to design and develop the most appropriate learning environment for the students. This incorporates Robert Gagne's events of instruction to assure effective use of media in instruction with A — Analyze; learners; S — State standards & objectives; S — Select strategies, technology, media & materials; U — Utilize technology, media & materials; R — Require learner participation; and E — Evaluate & revise.

Experience:

In the past, I usually treat making a lesson plan as a difficult task especially that I don't have yet the prior knowledge of its format and content. Whenever I think of the future that I would have to make a bountiful lesson plan is frustrating for my part. This lead me to think that making lesson plan as the hardest and most tiring part of being a teacher as I have heard a lot from the teachers I have known that they have to make a number of this kind.

Reflection:

Being presented with this ASSURE model is a great opportunity for me. I thought first that this is somewhat a tiring and complicated model of a lesson but I was mistaken. This model is a tool that I can use for the future use. After discovering this model, I have learned that this ASSURE model is a way to guide educators in their endeavor in teaching the lesson in the class. This is will help me to organize the lesson I have and be able to understand it amidst the details that it requires.

Action:

The usage of the ASSURE model is one way I can do. To use the ASSURE model in my future class or facilitation plan is helpful for me so that I would more familiarize with this model.

Evaluation:

New things and new ways have been introduce to use nowadays. It is in our own decision if we would accept it or not, if we would adapt to the change or not. These acquired knowledge about ASSURE model is helpful for both the student and the teacher.

I.N. Entry #4: Achieving 21st century learning                               environments

Context:

Learning environments in the 21st century doesn't only take into account the structure of the classroom and the students. it also encompasses the learning strategies that are teacher-centered or student centered with the integration of technology, media, and metrials to support learning. these strategies includes Presentation, Demonstration, Drill and Practice and tutorials while student-centered includes Discussion, Cooperative Learning, Games, Simulation, Discovery, and Problem Solving.

Experience:

It was during my 1st year in college that I realized the real meaning of learning environment. It is not just about the set-up of the room but it includes on how to handle the class in a way that they would be comfortable, open, and also partcipative. I can still remember during my 1st year Psych 1 that I always yawn because I feel very sleepy.

Reflection:

Learning environment is an important factor so that learning would be present. It is essential for it can motivate the learners to learn and listen well to the teacher’s discussion. I learned that learning environment is not just the classroom but also the situation of the class. It may create a learning atmosphere that caters the interest and learning of the student or the other way around. That’s why discovering effective learning environment is important and as a future educator I must be able to create an effective learning environment for my students.

Action:

In my part that is still becoming a future educator using new methods during report would help me practicing different types of teaching strategies like demonstration or collaborative learning is one thing I can do. This is a great help for me to practice these strategies that later on I can use in the future. Also taking into consideration the different approaches that my classmate and teacher are using is also another thing I need to do.

Evaluation

Creating an effecting learning environment isn’t easy. It is in the hands of the teachers that the lesson would be delivered to the students well. That’s why is important to discover and take into consideration the usage of other method of teaching that can create an effective learning environment where the interest and learning of the student will be there.

IN Entry #5: Engaging Learners with Computers

Context:

One thing that is prevalent in the 21st century is the existence of computers. A person may be able to own his/her own computer easily however being a computer literate is another thing. Nowadays, we have to be able to have the ability to use computer and technology efficiently.

Experience:

Every year in my grade school we have to handle a computer and I must admit that even turning the computer is a complex task for me. That’s why I consider computer class as the hardest subject in my entire elementary life. With this kind of perspective that computers are something I must avoid and I think I consider myself as someone who is afraid of this.

Reflection:

Being a computer literate is something that both the learner and the teacher must possess. It is an ability that both can use especially that we are now in the 21st century. I learned that learning about computers, its resources, software, hardware, and classroom set-ups that have computer access is necessary. Being aware of these things is

Action:

I am aware of my current ability in terms of the usage of computers. I am not yet a professional when it comes to this kind of electronics but I am capable in working with the different software and programs that are helpful both for my studies and entertainment. However as my level in studies increases I also need to increase my knowledge and aptitude in handling computers with some other complex things that can I can use in the future. I need to learn more of other types of software or either the classroom set-ups that have computer access that I can use as a future educator. I also need to practice more on the usage of other applications that I have already encountered.

Evaluation:

Computers are not things that need to be afraid of. They are an aid to learning and also an instructional material that promotes learning. They can be a friend for the learners and the teachers if we are only open in engaging with them.

I.N. Entry # 6: Connecting Learners Using Web 2.0

Context:

Schools in the 21st century are changing. The use of tools such as the web 2.0 are now spreading. These tools are online resources that are available to anyone wishing to use them to target those skills and provide students with many types of learning opportunities beyond simple information access. Some of these online resources are blogs, wikis, and even social networks.

Experience:

Making blogs is not my style, even active social networking is not an option for me. However one experience that I can be thankful of is when I was able to make my own blog and website. It is my first time to make such collaborative website and that blog is a way to cater my learning about web 2.0 tool.

Reflection:

Web 2.0 tools are not just mere tools for entertainment. Learning can also be extract from using this kind of tools. I have learned that these web 2.0 tools can be used in the classroom and most especially for the learners. I also learned that in social networks like the facebook, the best post that one can put in their account are places or landmarks they have been or they want to be. In this way I would be able to share different sites and discover the stories behind them.

Action:

Being aware now about the proper use of these web 2.0 tools for me and for the classroom, I would now know how to use certain tools appropriately. Like website, I can do now websites that doesn’t require any java codes instead I would choose to do wix. Also if ever I would have knowledge about certain stuffs that I wish to contribute I can post my works in wikis. Even steps in making things can posted online and I can do it using wikihows. In this way I would discover ideas and share my ideas to others with the help of these web 2.0 tools.

Evaluation:

Web 2.0 tools are needed to be used properly so that it won’t just be called as mere web tools. These tools are useful to children, students and teachers for their learning. The use of Web 2.0 tools is transforming work from traditional into the 21st century learning, and more specifically the way teacher support students in the classroom. As schools bring more technology into their classrooms, teachers will in turn strive to put more technology in their students’ hands.

I.N. Entry # 7: Connecting Learners at a Distance

Context:

Distance learning has been widely used both here and outside of the Philippines. It has been one of the best resources that teachers use to incorporate technology and media in learning. Sites such as Coursera, Edmodo, and kidsclicks are helpful both for the teachers and the learners

Experience:

Online learning has been a familiar sight to me. I have been able to use this type of learning even before. During my first year here in Xavier I have encountered e learn and edmodo that helped a lot especially with subjects that requires the use of these sites like Educ 02 and Psych 1.

Reflection:

Distance learning is an important type of resources for an effective learning.  Learned that it is important to introduce and let students explore this type of learning. I also learned that student can use this type of learning even if their teachers aren’t requiring them to do so. It is an area that
